I have been shooting USPSA and IDPA for years. I got pretty good pretty quickly, but hit a wall in performance improvement about two years ago. Why? Because while I did develop pretty good skills, I never created a formal plan for improvement. I would go out and practice in an unstructured way. This book gives you a playbook on how to improve. It breaks down the different components of practical shooting and gives you a plan on how to address the different skills you need to get better at the game.

Basically, if you want to get better at shooting (or anything really) you have to know what needs to be improved, how to improve it, and the steps you need to take to get it done. You then need to do the work to get better.

Mike does a great job at addressing the core mental game skills a shooter needs to have to be consistent. This is something lacking in most other books on the subject.

Bottom line- If you are a practical shooter and want to get better, buy this book. It will be money well spent.

Love this book, but don’t buy the Kindle version. The book is full of tables, charts, and illustrations that are not readable on the Kindle. Additionally, you’ll want to skip around to the various assigned tasks and drills, and won’t be able to go directly to them on the Kindle. However, if you are a competition shooter, or want to get better than you are, definitely buy the hard copy of this book. I did, which means I had to buy it twice. BTW, purchase the videos that go with this book. They make the drills much easier to understand, plus you get Seeklander’s explanation of why he does the things the way he does, and provides valuable technique information.

A must have for your shooting library, June 5, 2012

This book is very good about laying out a training program for the newer shooter. The more advanced shooter can get a lot out of the book as well, just may need to tweak the program to fit there needs. The value of the book is not so much the drills themselves, but he say exactly what the drill is supposed to accomplish. Anybody can soot drills, but understanding what they are trying to teach is what they are supposed to be about.

The mental section, match prep, etc are all great.

The only issue I have with this book is the binding. It does not hold up very well to repeated use on the range. I ended up punching holes and putting it in a three ring binder. Either make it spiral bound or put the holes for the binder from the factory.
