I teach health classes and I have a few dollars of cash that I had been keeping in an office drawer. To make sure some patient might not “happen” to open one of my desk drawers while I was out of the office, I went searching for a well made little safe or lock box to keep the cash more secured from curious patients or their children. A handgun safe seemed like a good way to go, but many years ago I had a one made by Gun Vault, and although it was well made, the batteries kept going dead and I’d have to dig out my emergency key to open it and replace them and that was a pain. This one has no power source to go bad and uses what looks like a Simplex push button lock. In any event, it installed real easily under my desk near the front where I can get at it very easily, and changing the combination from what it came shipped with, was also very easy. For those who want it for a handgun, it seems as though it would serve that purpose very well also, to keep it from your kids or friends, and their web site even says it is California DOJ approved which is probably not simple to get. Definitely recommended

My young nephew stays with me often. I needed a way to safely store my subcompact, yet be able to get to it fast. I also didn’t want to be dealing with batteries.

The ShotLock fit the bill. I’m able to store my baby Glock, 3 10 round magazines, and a push button flash light. Its easy to remove my weapon and store it or retrieve it. I like the fact that the numbers have to be entered in a sequence. I’ve seen mechanical push button locks that do no do this.

After setting the combination I practiced opening the safe many times with my eyes open. I then practiced opening the safe many times with my eyes closed. Once I had that down I ensured my weapon and magazines were unloaded, and I practiced readying the weapon and gathering the flash light. This may sound excessive, but in my opinion it is as important as range time and training. I hope to never have to use my weapon, but if I do I plan on being ready.

Other thoughts: make sure your gun will fit. Some of the 1911 clones are a bit too big. With a gen 4 26 I didn’t have to worry about that. It is about a 1/4 of inch too thin to store the baby Glock in my carry holster. Not that I would anyway.

I like this item so much I plan on getting a second one I can take with me when I stay with friends. I also will be getting a few as presents for friends in law enforcement.

No battery’s, simple, and quick. The only downside I see is you can only use each button 1 time in your combination. So you can do 12345 but you cant do 11234 as an example. I had planed on using 1155. You can however use 2 buttons at the same time.
