Great little pistol, very accurate, July 25, 2009

I have had mine for a couple of years, and after reading the reviews of others, I have to take exception to everyones knocking the accuracy of this little gun. Mine, strait out of the box, has been nothing short of a champ. Using the Gamo gold pellets, I have taken several tree rats, blue jays, and the occasional crow. Out to 20 yards or so, I can hit anything I can see. I have even blasted small gecko’s off my fence with it.
I must say though, I have never shot BB’s through my pistol, as I know what they will do to a rifled barrel. They beat out the rifleings, making the accuracy iffy over time.As for the stiff double action trigger pull, Big Deal! It will make you a more patient, and better shot in the long run! Take your time, dont forget to breath! And squeeze, dont jerk!

    fun pistol, December 23, 2010

This review is from: Gamo P-23 Air Pistol (Sports)

My friend loaned me his p-23 a couple of weeks ago, and I had a heck of a lot of fun with it. At first I had trouble, b/c I didnt know that you could fire pellets thru it, and the bbs were jamming up in there. Once I started firing pellets I realized just how accurate and reliable this model air pistol is..far superior to the daisy I had as a kid. After a couple days I had to order my own. I was a little dissapointed b/c I wanted the straight grip model, which I guess they dont make any more (I like that model better).
The p-23 has a nice weight for the size, over a lb. which feels good in your hand. Its got some plastic, but its not over plasticky, its got a solid feel.
Anyway, I think the people who have problems with the gun dont use it correctly. If youre considering buying this item or youre having trouble with it, do this: First of all, put a little pellet gun oil on the flat tip of the CO2 cartridge before you tighten it in..and DONT tighten it too hard, just a slight turn more after you hear the hissing stop (you have to put it to your ear, and dont be afraid to turn it slower you wont loose enough gas to make a difference). Itll keep the seel and the peircing tip from getting damaged, and making the gas leak out. so use a little oil, not too much just a tiny dab, and You dont have to crush it in there..
If the gun is jamming, and not firing accuratly, its because youre firing bbs. BBs are smaller than pellets so dont fit the barrel as well, therefore not getting any benefit from the awesome rifled steel barrel not common in air pistols this size. Id recomend running pellets thru it only, single shot. Never fails, and super accurate with enough punch to bust a thick (empty) pint bottle at 45ft, on the beach, on a windy day. Also, loading pellets gives the CO2 2-3 seconds to recharge to full strength, which it doesn’t get firing rapidly with bbs..This is true! I get about 50-60 or so powerful shots this way, before gas starts to get weak. Crossman Hunters are a good one for this gun. Gamo pellets sometimes are too big or misshaped, but they do the trick anyway.
The loading method/apparatus on this model is just superb. Its like a break-barrel, The barrel being hinged below the mouth of the barrel. Theres a latch just above the back of the rear of the trigger guard, to open the barrel housing upwards, loading the single pellet directly into the barrel..no clips that are gonna jam, just pellet and gas.. Its fail-proof, and snaps shut with a healthy, heavy metal ‘click’. I find it very satisfying, haha. After prob 800 shots, Ive had maybe 2-3 pellets that didnt sit tightly and slid out of the barrel on their own- I can live with that.
OK have fun, hope this helps. I dont usually spend time writing reviews, but I wanted to speak against the poor reviews on the site, because I think this is such a fun and reliable air pistol, if used in the right way. My girlfriend shot this, her first time firing anything, ever, and hit a soda can at 30 feet, on her 2nd shot! I have now enjoyed using 2 different p-23’s, one of them is years and years old, and its just as good as the brand new one! Have fun, dont kill wildlife for no reason, and most important BE SAFE

I own two of these air guns. I find then to be an excellent value. They are fun plinking guns. They will fire bb’s as fast as you can pull the trigger, But if you want to shoot pellets, each pellet MUST be loaded individually. They have a nice weight and good feel to the gun. To load this gun, it opens from the top. The CO2 cylinder is in the handle.
